Problem Statement
A Nortel CS1000 (CS1K) reports a Minor ELAN009 alarm indicating that an ELAN host/IP link is disabled because a write to socket failed due to a far-end disconnect, Ethernet issue, or network interface problem.
Impact
ELAN connectivity to the affected host or IP Media Gateway may be interrupted. Management, signaling, or registration-related communication for the affected ELAN link may be degraded until the link is restored.
Alarm
ELAN009 - ELAN host IP disabled, write to socket fail due to far end disconnect or Ethernet/network interface problems
Troubleshooting Steps
- Confirm the active alarm details in the monitoring dashboard, including alarm severity, maintenance object ELAN009, alarm code ACT, affected ELAN link number, and associated host/IP entry.
- Check whether the affected ELAN interface or link is currently up from the CS1000 management interface or applicable network monitoring tools.
- Verify Ethernet connectivity between the CS1000 ELAN interface and the far-end device, including switch port status, cabling, VLAN assignment, duplex/speed, and interface error counters.
- Confirm the far-end device is reachable on the ELAN network and has not rebooted, disconnected, or disabled its network interface.
- Review CS1000 system messages for registration or recovery events related to the affected IP Media Gateway or endpoint.
- If the link has recovered, verify that a registration success message is present, such as SRPT226 indicating registration has been granted for the affected IPMG.
- Confirm the ELAN009 alarm clears from the monitoring dashboard after connectivity and registration are restored.
Resolution
The alarm cleared after the ELAN link came back up and the affected IPMG successfully registered. A system message similar to SRPT226 confirmed that registration was granted. No further action is required once the link is stable and the alarm is cleared.
