Problem Statement
Avaya IX Messaging IXM (Consolidated) reports a minor disk-space alarm when free disk space on a monitored drive falls below the warning threshold. In the ticket example, the C: drive reached warning state at 76% used.
Impact
Disk utilization is elevated on the affected Avaya IX Messaging server. If disk usage continues to increase, the system may progress to a more severe alarm and could eventually affect message storage, logging, or application stability.
Alarm
avIXAlmServDiskWarning - Amount of free disk space below 25%; Alarm Code: ACT; example equipment text: Disk usage for C: became Warning (76%)
Troubleshooting Steps
- Confirm the alarm details in the monitoring dashboard, including device type, maintenance object, alarm code, affected disk, and current utilization percentage.
- Verify whether the alarm is still active or has returned to normal in the dashboard.
- Check disk usage directly on the Avaya IX Messaging server, if access is available, and confirm the percentage used and free space on the affected drive.
- Review common disk consumers such as logs, temporary files, old installation files, database backups, message-store growth, or other retained files.
- If disk usage is still above the warning threshold, free space using approved maintenance procedures for Avaya IX Messaging. Do not delete application data unless it is confirmed safe by the product documentation or support process.
- After cleanup or natural recovery, refresh the monitoring dashboard and verify that the disk warning has cleared.
- If the alarm remains active after sufficient free space is available, allow the monitoring poll interval to complete, then recheck. Escalate if the alarm does not clear or if disk usage continues to increase.
Resolution
The alarm cleared and the system returned to normal. No further corrective action was documented in the ticket.
