Problem Statement
Avaya Session Manager (SM) raises a Minor OP_CMON55002 alarm indicating that SIP monitoring state for a SIP entity is DOWN. The monitored SIP entity is not successfully responding to SIP OPTIONS requests.
Impact
SIP monitoring cannot verify reachability of the configured SIP entity. If the entity is DOWN, none of its resolved addresses respond successfully to SIP OPTIONS. If partially up, at least one address responds and at least one does not. Depending on call routing design, this may affect SIP trunk or peer availability.
Alarm
OP_CMON55002 - SIP monitoring state for entity is DOWN. Alarm code: ACT. Clear event observed: OP_CMON55000 - SIP monitoring state for entity is no longer DOWN.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Open Avaya System Manager and navigate to the SIP Monitoring Status page for the alarmed SIP entity.
- Review the monitored entity status, including each resolved address and the SIP response codes returned for SIP OPTIONS requests.
- Determine whether the entity is fully down or partially up. Fully down means none of the entity addresses respond successfully; partially up means at least one address responds and at least one does not.
- Verify Local Host Name Resolution and DNS resolution for the SIP entity to ensure the expected IP addresses are being monitored.
- Check IP reachability from the Session Manager toward each resolved SIP entity address using approved network troubleshooting methods.
- Confirm the far-end SIP entity is powered on, network reachable, and configured to respond to SIP OPTIONS on the expected transport and port.
- Review recent network, firewall, routing, DNS, or SIP configuration changes that may prevent OPTIONS requests or responses.
- If the alarm clears, confirm an OP_CMON55000 informational event is generated stating that SIP monitoring state for the entity is no longer DOWN.
- If the alarm remains active after reachability and configuration checks, escalate to the voice/SIP engineering team with the SIP Monitoring Status details and response codes.
Resolution
In the observed case, the Minor OP_CMON55002 alarm cleared without further documented intervention. Avaya Session Manager generated an informational OP_CMON55000 event indicating that the SIP monitoring state for the entity was no longer DOWN.
