Problem Statement
Avaya Session Manager reports a minor OP_CMON55002 alarm indicating that SIP monitoring state for a configured SIP entity is DOWN. The alarm means the SIP entity is not successfully responding to SIP OPTIONS requests from Session Manager.
Impact
SIP routing through the affected entity may be unavailable while the entity is DOWN. If the state changes to PARTIALLYUP, at least one resolved address is responding and at least one is not, which may cause intermittent or route-dependent SIP failures.
Alarm
OP_CMON55002 - SIP monitoring state for entity is DOWN
Troubleshooting Steps
- Confirm the active alarm details in the monitoring dashboard or Avaya System Manager, including the alarmed SIP entity, severity, and current state.
- Open the SIP Monitoring Status page in Avaya System Manager and review the status for each address associated with the affected SIP entity.
- Check whether the entity state is DOWN or PARTIALLYUP. DOWN indicates none of the resolved entity addresses are responding to SIP OPTIONS. PARTIALLYUP indicates at least one address is responding and at least one is not.
- Review the SIP response codes shown on the SIP Monitoring Status page. These are standard SIP response codes and can indicate whether the issue is reachability, routing, rejection, timeout, or another SIP-layer response.
- Validate the SIP entity addressing configuration, including Local Host Name Resolution and DNS resolution, because the same SIP entity may resolve to multiple addresses.
- Check recent Session Manager logs for related state-change events, including OP_CMON55000 indicating the entity is no longer DOWN or no longer PARTIALLYUP, and OP_CMON55001 indicating the entity is PARTIALLYUP.
- If the alarm remains active, verify network reachability and SIP OPTIONS responsiveness between Session Manager and the configured SIP entity addresses using the approved operational tools for the environment.
- If the alarm has cleared, continue monitoring to confirm the SIP entity remains stable and no recurring DOWN or PARTIALLYUP events are generated.
Resolution
In the reviewed event sequence, the SIP monitoring alarm cleared without configuration changes. Session Manager logged OP_CMON55000 events indicating the SIP entity was no longer DOWN and later no longer PARTIALLYUP. Treat the alarm as resolved when the monitoring dashboard and SIP Monitoring Status page show the entity is no longer in DOWN or PARTIALLYUP state.
