Problem Statement
Avaya Communication Manager generated a Minor avCmAlmNrConnMinor / NR-CONN alarm from the CommunicaMgr process. In one occurrence, the NR-CONN alarm was accompanied by an H.248 link-down alarm for a media gateway.
Impact
The alarm affected Avaya Communication Manager monitoring for the site and could indicate a transient network-region or media-gateway connectivity issue. In the documented cases, the alarms cleared after testing and no persistent service-impacting condition was recorded.
Alarm
avCmAlmNrConnMinor: A Minor NR-CONN alarm has been generated by the CommunicaMgr process. { avCmAlmNotifications 5391 } Alarm Code: ACT. Related alarm seen in one case: cmgH248LinkDown: The H.248 link between the Media Gateway and its controller is down.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Confirm the active alarm in the monitoring dashboard or Communication Manager alarm view: maint object avCmAlmNrConnMinor / NR-CONN, alarm type Minor, alarm code ACT.
- Check whether any related media gateway alarms are active, especially cmgH248LinkDown indicating that the H.248 link between a media gateway and its controller is down.
- From Avaya Communication Manager SAT, run: test failed-ip-network-region
- Review the test output for NR-CONN results. In the documented case with detailed output, the NR-CONN tests returned PASS.
- If a media gateway alarm was also present, verify whether the media gateway condition remains active after the failed IP network region test. One observed output still showed a MED-GTWY warning while NR-CONN tests passed.
- Recheck the alarm dashboard or Communication Manager alarm list to confirm whether the avCmAlmNrConnMinor alarm has cleared.
Resolution
Running the Communication Manager SAT command test failed-ip-network-region cleared the avCmAlmNrConnMinor / NR-CONN Minor alarms in the documented cases. Where a related H.248 media-gateway link-down alarm was present, the same test cleared the NR-CONN alarms after the NR-CONN checks returned PASS; continue to monitor or separately troubleshoot the media gateway if any MED-GTWY warning remains active.
