Problem Statement
A Nortel CS1000 (CS1K) generated a Minor alarm with maintenance object XMI001 and alarm code ACT. The alarm description indicated that a card in an expansion cabinet lost connection to the main cabinet.
Impact
The affected expansion cabinet card may have a temporary or active loss of communication with the main cabinet. If the alarm remains active or recurs, services associated with equipment in the expansion cabinet may be at risk.

XMI001 ACT
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the alarm dashboard or CS1000 alarm view to confirm whether the XMI001 alarm is still active or has cleared.
- Record the affected equipment reference shown with the alarm, including the cabinet/shelf/card location, without relying only on the alarm summary text.
- If the alarm has cleared and there are no related active alarms, monitor for recurrence.
- If the alarm remains active or recurs, inspect the affected expansion cabinet and main cabinet for power, visible hardware faults, and physical connectivity issues.
- Verify the inter-cabinet cabling or connection path between the expansion cabinet and the main cabinet is secure and undamaged.
- Check for related CS1000 maintenance or hardware alarms that may indicate a broader cabinet, card, or link issue.
- If physical connectivity and power appear normal but the alarm persists, escalate to Nortel/Avaya CS1000 support or the appropriate voice infrastructure team for hardware-level diagnostics.
Resolution
In the observed case, the XMI001 alarm cleared automatically shortly after activation. No corrective action was required once the alarm was confirmed cleared. Continue monitoring and investigate further only if the alarm remains active or recurs.
